70 Nations
In partnership with the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games I am designing a structure that will sit in the athletes village to celebrate the 70 cultures coming together for the games. It will provide a relaxing, open space where athletes can meet each other and start international friendships. The structure consists of seventy wooden arks curving out of the ground to meet at the top forming two ‘A’ frame like structures. Each ark represents a country and as they join they hold each other up.
To make the athletes feel welcome there are messages from home engraved on each ark. This project is inspired by the values and ideals of the Commonwealth Games and celebrates 70 countries coming together in peace to celebrate humanity and equality. It promotes positive relationships not just between athletes but also between every country involved.
