The Unlocked
'The Unlocked’ aims to alter the way the Scottish Prison Service currently operates. By reassessing the penal system, ‘The Unlocked’ will develop a new series of methods to provide prisoners greater opportunity upon release.
Currently in Scotland, reoffending statistics sit around 50.2% with 60% of this figure expected to reoffend within one year of their previous sentence ending.
Design methods will allow for prisoners to go through a progression of rehabilitation, which will increase the chance for a successful reintegration back into their communities. Taking this research into a site-specific environment in Aberdeen will provide a visual projection and example of project potential. Ultimately, ‘The Unlocked’ acts as a prison blueprint, which aims to influence future policymaking.
