Remedial Reach

The focus of ‘Remedial Reach’ is to design therapeutic environments for children and young people who have problems in regard to their mental health and wellbeing, in particular, Emotional Dysregulation. In connection with Cairnmohr Childcare Partnership in Glenrothes, Fife, the aim is to design therapeutic spaces for the children and young people who are living in three of their existing care homes. As “72% of children in care have behavioural or emotional problems and are the most vulnerable people in our society,” my design intends to help them deal with their emotional dysregulations in a non-intrusive way. Using Participatory design and User-Centered design methods the aim is to put the needs of the children and young people at the heart of the design. The site for the space is located in Thornton, Fife, where there are five derelict buildings, which will be restored and re-imagined through the design.
